Maelstrom Solutions has an immediate position available for a full time web artist. Notice that the word "designer" does not appear in this title. What we are looking for is a person that can kick out extremely creative web concepts in Photoshop that can be turned into sites by our production coders. Your ability to code HTML is as important to us as your skills at sorting rocks into jars according to size and color.
Since I keep getting a ton of people with print design and no web experience, I need to make this point clear. You MUST have web graphic experience (not HTML) and not just print. If you can only do print, you are not going to have any idea on how to design for the web. Only submit a resume if you have some clues on the web and what is required for designs in that medium.
Here are the details:
- Must know Photoshop like you helped write it
- NO HTML SKILLS REQUIRED (don't ask again)
- No degree or formal experience required
- Able to work unsupervised and still get something done
- Sense of humor is required for survival
- Need to live next to, but not in, Lake Michigan (Milwaukee metro)
- Did I mention the uber Photoshop skills?
- You should probably know a bit of Illustrator as well
Interested? Ok, here is the challenge. Rather than sending us a meaningless resume that proves nothing, why not just complete our challenge?
Here is how it works, first of all you let me know your interested (send me some screen shots to get past the gate keepers) and we will chat on the phone to make sure you speak English and have a grasp with such things like "verbs" and so on. Next, I will then give you a sample project that we use for every potential artist (it is the same concept for everyone, so we have a standard by which to measure). Then, you mock-up that concept in Photoshop to prove your metal. If you can blow our minds, have a personality, and can dress yourself, then the job is yours.
Here are a few things you need to do:
- Layer in a sane manner (we look at this closely)
- Keep all type in Latin or Greek to avoid content issues
- Web designers grow on trees, so we need you to be an artist first
- People that have leet skills at arranging clip-art and stock photos into pretty rectangles might as well save time and skip applying for this position cause you're going to get laughed at and ridiculed
- Think outside the Calabi-Yau space and you will do just fine
Extra credit points:
- You know Flash and action script
- You know CSS and/or XSLT
